Frank Wilson

Whilst in medical practice I developed an interest in metal, which sprang from my work in orthopaedic surgery where very special, sophisticated steels are used to perform life-enhancing operations.
I have been making steel sculptures for over thirty years since I was a doctor in Yorkshire, and my work has increased since I moved to Somerset in 2000.
As a contrast to such high performance materials, I developed the use of any steel I could lay my hands on, which was weldable electrically.
My work grew in quality and variety over many years and now my main interest is creating minimalist human relating pairs or larger groups of figures. Each piece is individually made so there are never two exactly alike. Another creation is the ‘wind hound’ – a dog like creature, which seems to be leaping in space, most effectively realised in groups.
