Handcraft Pottery

Jon and Julie Harbottle established their pottery in Nottingham after leaving college in 1978. In 1985,they moved to South Shropshire and now live on the Shropshire/Hertfordshire border.

They both work full-time in pottery with Julie doing the throwing and Jon the turning and glazing.

The last 27 years have seen many changes to their pottery but none more so than in 1997 when they stopped making highly decorated tableware, to concentrate on the new, simple, calm pots we see today. The bright blue range has proved to be the most popular they have ever made, with the distinctive stripe running around the middle, symbolizing the blue sea from the deep blue sky.

They are made from white stoneware clay and fired in a propane gas kiln with an oxidizing atmosphere, to a temperature of 1240 degrees centigrade.
