Allan Paris

A graduate of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Allan now lectures in art
at Angus College, Arbroath. His work is always sourced from either direct
observation, from memory or from imagination. He believes strongly in the
importance of drawing and has always perceived it as integral to the process
of composing imagery.

The experimentation with new media led him to the idea to draw imagery on
his mobile phone. Its simplicity, directness and mobility allow him to be
very spontaneous which suits his life style and personal approach to
artwork. He uses his touch sensitive phone to draw his images and modifies
them using different hatching techniques and many different effects can be
created. After e-mailing himself he can develop them further by hand without
the intervention of computers. He uses only the best quality inks and Kodak paper for
the ultimate in permanency. Each picture is signed individually on the front and back
where they are also titled and dated.

He has work in public collections and Dundee and Angus Council. In 1992 he gained a
Master of Fine Art from Dundee University. He was a prize winner in the prestigious
Dundee 800 open art competition and first prize winner in the Angus Artists’
Extravaganza exhibition in 1998.
