Garry Jones

The ceramic world of Garry Jones is full of humour and fun; through his work Garry’s unique play on words brings a whole new meaning to familiar phrases and a smile to everyone’s face when they meet his menagerie of clay creatures. These highly individual sculptures reflect not only Garry’s fantastic imagination and creative twist on humour; they are also fine examples of his skill as a designer and ceramic artist.

“I love animals. Animals are everything to me; they are a continuous source of amusement, happiness, sadness and of course inspiration. My aim is to create humorous, three dimensional cartoon images; I attempt to attribute animals with human characteristics, using word play and common phrases, recalling the old silent movies where moments in time and emotions were captured by expression alone."

Originally from Wales, Garry has lived in the Midlands since 1969 but his passions are linked to his childhood years spent in and around the Welsh countryside and culture. In 2009 Garry won the Design Gap 'Wow Factor' Award at the British Craft Trade Fair. This award is given to the stand, which is considered to have something extra special about it, the 'Wow Factor!' and it is the only award at the British Craft Trade Fair, which is voted for by the exhibitors at the show, making him feel very proud and honoured to have won the vote of his contemporaries.
