Patricia Gurgel-Segrillo
Patricia Gurgel-Segrillo
In her native Brazil, the UK and San Francisco, Patricia has trained and worked in an impressively diverse and wide range of disciplines, through oil painting, silk-screen printing, film animation, hat design, film studies, gemology, interior accessories to of course, jewellery design and manufacture.
In 1999 she completed an MA in Design Studies from Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design in London and in 2001 she opened a workshop in Rio de Janeiro where she lives with her daughter and continues to design and produce jewellery.
Patricia’s prime objective is to create jewellery that is useable and comfortable; the result is tactile, contemporary and ultimately wearable treasures. She works with pure silver, also called 999 silver, which is softer, a crucial characteristic for the weaving technique she uses to create her unique jewellery. Some people who believe they are allergic to silver are, in fact, allergic to other metals mixed in to make sterling silver, usually nickel. In her years of experience, Patricia has never known someone to be allergic to her work.
Patricia’s jewellery is in the personal collection of Hollywood film star Orlando Bloom.
