Dorothea Gray
Dorothea was born of socialist parents in Linden, Hanover, Germany in 1929. A student of Pit Von Frihling from 1967 to 1972, she has painted and exhibited throughout Europe.
A recurrent theme in Dorothea’s work is the celebration of freedom in its struggle against darkness and repression, reflected in her paintings through the use of colour and light. She is, if categories are meaningful, a modern Northern European expressionist. She believes that the viewer of a painting should be enriched by a revelation of the unfamiliar or the unknown, a spontaneous discovery of the unexpected, uninhibited by previous experience or the consciousness of self.
