“I was born and raised on the Lizard Peninsula, moving away to study for my degree, and from there moving to New York, where I lived for 7 years. As a response to the impact of living in that city I began to make 3 dimensional works for the first time, using diverse materials.
Drawing on previous experiences working with resins I started focusing on jewellery 7 years ago. I began to make moulds from a number of small objects, casting resin in their various shapes, and embedding tiny things in these casts. For 4 years I sold my work only occasionally, focusing instead on a thorough jewellery education and for the last 2 years a position in the marketing department of Cartier International.
I have tried to produce jewellery that responds to being worn, shifting as the wearer moves and different aspects of the piece come into focus. Having originally worked with resin making lights, I continue to try to emphasize the materials fantastic potential for containing and transmitting light, blurring the surfaces to create a soft diffused glow when worn.
I see reflections of all my various experiences within my jewellery making process, which is why I love it. The intermixing of plastics, precious metals and semi precious stones, as well as the layering of colours, text, images and objects within the cast components is central to my understanding of jewellery. I am fascinated by the endless possibility offered by this medium.”
