Nicola Cheers
Nicola started making ceramic submarines in 1998 after graduating from Cumbria College of Art and Design. Whilst at college she became interested in various types of transport, in particular, ships, boats and submarines. This interest manifests itself in a series of forms which attempts to illustrate in ceramics, the rust and decay that ocean going vessels eventually succumb to. Over the years her work has been supported by her partner, now husband, Andrew. His background is a degree in wood, metal and plastic from Wolverhampton University. His contribution was at first, the production of the plastic stands which support the submarines but due to the popularity of the submarines he now works in the studio alongside Nicola.
