Linda Caswell
Linda lives in Wales where, from her studio, she works in porcelain agateware, a contemporary use of a traditional technique. The colours are in the clay itself and not a surface decoration. Instead of mixing clays of different colours, she works in porcelain alone, colouring some and mixing the colours to create her patterns. She enjoys the combination of part control and part happenstance. She decides the colours, the quantity of colour and creates the patterning but then a random element takes over – beyond her control. The work is made in a series but no two pieces will be identical. Only the rims are glazed and once-fired in an electric kiln.
