Scott Carruthers

Scott was born in New Zealand in 1975 but later that year moved back to England with his family. After 30 years of living in Norwich, in late 2005 he moved to Perth, Scotland, where he is now based full time.

"It's hard to explain what my paintings actually are.

I call them Nostalgic Observations. They are mainly inspired by a mix of the nostalgia from my own childhood along with watching my two young kids grow up. Not necessarily making any comparisons, but being reminded of the nostalgic years and how their life today differs in these modern times, yet somehow mirror my own childhood.

The bold, colourful figures painted against a white background make for an eye catching and thought provoking image. Each painting has a write up explaining my own thoughts behind the specific piece and although these descriptions are not essential to the viewer, I think they work well to compliment the image.

I have been largely inspired over the years by the art of Andy Warhol, David Hockney and Alexander Millar, but my biggest inspiration has been to produce artwork that catches the eye and stimulate the imagination."
