Sarah Burnside

Sarah Burnside originally trained at Stourbridge Collage of Art, in the midst of a traditional glass making area, and has carried her love of the medium through her work ever since. She has used it in many different forms, including textile works, relying heavily on glass beading, as well as glass mosaic work. Since settling in the East Nuke of Scotland, Sarah has returned to working with glass in its most traditional form - stained glass.

Using mainly the copper foil technique, her work seeks to interpret much of the light and colour of the natural environment, often reflecting the different moods of the Firth of Forth and the Fife shore line. Other works have drawn inspiration from further afield; Japan and Moorish Spain, as well as the work of artists like Kandinsky and Mondrian.

While Sarah makes window and door panels for individual commissions, she designs many of her pieces to be free-standing, and therefore easily displayed in front of a window or lamp, and appreciated simply as a piece of vibrant work. She also makes fire screens, room dividers, mirrors and stained glass jewellery.
