Antique fabrics, ribbon, lace and buttons inspire the style of my work while the beach provides a wealth of ideas for shapes and colours. I produce my handbuilt ceramics in porcelain along with a collection of jewellery. I also undertake personalised commissions.
I have always loved making. While at college I enjoyed working across disciplines incorporating aspects of each into my work. Ceramics, textiles and jewellery are three such disciplines.
I found porcelain was the ideal material for me to work with, its properties allow me the flexibility I need from my material and its sensitivity enables me to imprint delicate patterns onto its surface. Texture is central to my making process and a key element in creating the tactile look that has become characteristic of my work.
In my jewellery I combine porcelain, silver, lace, ribbon and freshwater pearls. I make and fire porcelain buttons of all shapes and sizes that I then use to create my various deigns. A quote i was saw sums it up, 'no button is too small to be cherished'.
