This series is called 'east neuk litteuns' and each piece comes with its own mini easle. This box canvas painting is 10 x 10 cms.

I was born in 1945 in Glasgow, Scotland and it is only recently that I have been “released into the community” by retirement and have had a real opportunity to paint. We moved from the west to the east coast to St Andrews in 2006 and I was bowled over by the combination of big skies, brilliant wee towns and villages clinging to the coast and the quality of the light over the Firth of Forth. This has stimulated me to return seriously to painting and too a looser style of painting in particular.

I mainly paint in watercolours because of the transparency of the medium and, to be honest, I don’t like to spend days and weeks on the same picture – watercolour is immediate and, if you don’t paint quickly, the spontaneity goes out the window. Also I don’t like the smell of turps….
