There are many different types of rugs but Turkish rugs are reputedly the finest in the world as they are made using a double knot technique, which makes them more durable then those using just a single knot. The dyes used are natural plant and vegetable, which means that the colour is throughout the length of the thread, which is not the case with synthetic dyes and although the colour will mature, they do not fade.

This rug is made of silk which reflects the light and the surface colour changes depending on which direction you look at it from. There are over 200 individual knots per square inch, making it one of the finest but most difficult of handmade works due to the stress on the eyes.
