Hadrian’s Gate design

Turkish rugs are reputedly the finest in the world, as they are made using a double knot technique, which makes them more durable then those using just a single knot. The dyes used are natural plant and vegetable, which means that the colour is throughout the length of the thread, which is not the case with synthetic dyes and although the colour will mature, they do not fade. The wool used is from the neck of the sheep, which is the softest part.

This rug is from the Antalya region of Turkey. It depicts the Hadrianus Gate, which was the original entrance to the medieval part of the city, and measures approx. 116 x 176cm
