Janice lives in the busy holiday resort of Southport.
She studied ceramics and gained a BA Hon in ceramic tableware at The University of Central Lancashire. During her three-year course she was encouraged to experiment with many different types of clay, being pushed to develop her own innovative style. It was a soul-searching experience.
After trying many clays, Janice found that porcelain worked well with the style of firing she used. Janice then went on to study part-time and achieved an MA in ceramics.

“I have been inspired by my surroundings, the ever changing cloud formations, the evening sunsets and the stars of the night sky. This I captured in photographes of clouds in various weather conditions.”

“I have incorporated colour by adding a variety of organic materials and oxides. I smoke and saggar my work in different ways, giving the smoke the opportunity to lick the surface of my work, to produce stunning effects. Using my previous educational training, I have in recent years worked with junior school children, visiting schools in Lancashire and Merseyside taking workshops. This gives me the opportunity to pass on my experiences and skillsto our designers and makers of the future.”

Janice is an active member of both Northern Potters and The Art and Craft Guild of Lancashire.
